bitches and queens

WbtMariah Carey, my all-time favorite bee-yotch (and I mean that in a good way), once again secured the title of "the most successful female artist of all time" when got her 16th number one hit with "We Belong Together" in the Billboard charts last week.

Her first top hit since 1999's "Thank God I Found You" (which featured Joe and my favorite boy band 98 Degrees), this single also puts her "in rarefied company". That means she's three chartoppers less before surpassing Elvis (with 18 number ones), and five to beat the Beatles' 20. (read full story here)

Meanwhile, Canda's Natalie Glebova was named the new Miss Universe in the coronation pageant held in Thailand yesterday, beating Cynthia Olavarria of Puerto Rico (who obviously became the runner-up). Glebova succeeds Jennifer Hawkins (Australia), who won last year in Ecuador.

Sadly, our very own Gionna Cabrera didn't even make it to the Top 15, despite the usual rumors that she's one of the favorites. She did, however, nabbed the Miss Photogenic award -- again much like most of our candidates in the recent past (Abigail Arenas during the 1996 pageant comes to mind). *sigh* We might as well just send a picture of our candidate next time to cut costs.
